Day surgery is now provided for a wide range of procedures, in patients ranging from the very fit to the rather frail. It has become the standard of care for the majority of elective surgery and should be the default option for all 200 procedures within the BADS Directory of Procedures. Until recently the drive to move from inpatient to day surgery management has been mainly directed at elective surgery however more recently a variety of trusts across the country have begun to implement day surgery pathways for a range of emergency surgical procedures. This new and exciting development is the focus for this one day meeting.
